Drawings

While a painting is a construction—planned, executed, and often subverted—a drawing is all about looking.

Drawing is focused attention. Anyone who learns to draw discovers a rich universe: there’s always far more to see than you’d expect.

What differs is the amount of time available for looking. A gesture drawing of someone passing takes seconds; a. model in a life class might maintain a pose for twenty minutes; an outdoor scene drawn on holiday, maybe an hour; an image drawn from a photograph more like a day.
